Hello, and welcome to Episode 112. Today, my special guest is Fairien Azeem. And Fairien is the money coach to money coaches. And in our chat today, we're going to be exploring Fairiens business journey and how she's going from traditional business into online programmes and the kind of iterations that she had to go through before she found her thing with that. And also, she's giving you some huge tips in money mindset, which I absolutely love. Because so much of what we do with wealth, you know, it's not just, it's not just money in money out, you know, so many of our habits are affected by our beliefs and our wealth is affected by so many different things. And so Fairien is going to go through that with us today, which you will get so much out of. So a little bit of background on Fairien and she's a multi award winning financial professional who brings money, substance experience, and sophistication with the woo in a Down to Earth fun and fabulous way, and I can attest to being fabulous. I was on I ran a retreat with Fairien came to and you know, she's always impeccably dressed and so classy and just such a beautiful combination and contradiction of the sophistication and the woo woo of money mindset as well, which you know, is so interesting and fabulous. She's a financial educator, wealth strategist, business coach and has over 20 years experience. So She now works with women in business, to slay their money fears, change their money story, and earn their dream income. And so she is the founder of the money Coaching Academy, which is what I said at the beginning. She's the coach for money coaches. So for people that are wanting to become money coaches, she's training them so that they have that beautiful combination of mindset, and also the substance in there as well. Fairien believes in living an extraordinary life where you can achieve financial success, attract money into your life and achieve your financial goals. If you're ready to dream big and create a life of abundance, she'll teach you how to align your heart, head and hand to master your money mindset and build your empire. All right, here she is. You're gonna love it.

Fairien Welcome to her Empire Builder!

Fairien

Thank you so much for having me, Tina, such a pleasure to be here.

Tina

And it's about time. I mean, we have been working together for what nearly two years now. So it feels good to finally have you on here. But this one we're so used to just chatting the whole time that I was writing the questions and going yeah, there's no way we're gonna stick to our questions today.

Fairien

Time just flies. I can't believe it's been two years. Wow, that's gone quick.

Tina

I've already kind of formally introduced you. But in your words, tell me you know, who you serve? What lights you up? What are you doing now? Because you've changed direction multiple times to which is not what this episode is about. But maybe we should go into that a little bit as well later.

Fairien

All right, so who do I serve? So I love working with women who want to uncover their money blocks and fears and things that are stopping them from building wealth and creating a really happy and successful financial future for themselves. I also work with anyone who wants to become a money coach. So anyone who wants to learn how to teach other people how to understand their money.

Tina

What I love about it You and what you do is you come at it from a little bit of a woo woo money coaching side. But you've got all of the, like technical experience and background to do that. So what's your journey been like on this kind of financial services journey that's taken you to where you are now wanting to do money coaching?

Fairien

Well, my financial journey started in the financial services industry started when I was 18 years old. So this is what I've probably always done, I have dabbled in other things in and out. But I always get drawn back to this, because I really enjoy you know, helping people understand money, I love talking about money. I love teaching people how to build wealth, you know, strategies, and things like that. So I was working in one of the big four for five years actually worked there. And then when I was 25, I started our first business, which was in mortgage broking. And I did that for a long time helping people secure, you know, financial goals and buying property and things like that. Then I became a financial advisor, which was more in helping them invest, understanding their super understanding how to build wealth, you know, save tax and all that. When I was doing that, that's when I realised that people don't just need to understand what products to buy, where to invest, but also understand their mindset and the behaviours and the habits that are blocking them from actually helping them to secure financial future. So I would see clients and what would happen is, you do a strategy, and you would put it in place for them. And they'd come back a couple of years later, and they're in the same position, and you'd be like, so it's like, they really need, they need the handheld to actually go. So when you did something for them, it was done. But if you left them by themselves, it wasn't being done. And the reason for that is because you haven't worked on all the behaviours and the mindset and everything behind it, to understand money. So when I worked out that, I was like, No, I really enjoy this money coaching. I really love coaching, and helping people uncover what's stopping them, and what's happened in their past life that is making them act or react the way they are.

Tina

Yeah. And it's something that I mean, I'm in the business coaching world, and I've always loved coaches for everything. And I see see it becoming more prevalent now. But what is the biggest difference between like being a financial advisor and what you get from that to money coaching, like if people were going, Okay, money coaching, what, what is it?

Fairien

So as a financial advisor, you can a lot of people make coach, but they don't actually know as financial advisor, you are coaching them, what happens is, as a financial advisor, you are licenced, to actually give investment advice. Strategies actually sell products. So that's what you're doing, you're actually giving a person a product to solve their problem. Whereas as a money coach, you're actually working on the behaviours, the feelings, the mindset, to actually solve the problems going forward.

Tina

Yeah. Okay. So if you were having like, what does a typical session with a money coach look like? If I was to go, alright, I'm going into a money coach are like, okay, I want to do this because I want to get better at at the way that my relationship with money and do that, and I'm a bit nervous about going into a money Coach, what is the typical session kind of look like?

Fairien

Well, if you think about a session, you as a lot of probably digging into what your past behaviours are, what have you doing, understanding your cash flow, understanding your ins and outs, so you work a lot on budgeting as well. Because when your money has a purpose, you know, where it's actually going. So setting those financial goals, and then being like, Okay, well, this is my financial goal, and then working backwards and saying, Well, how am I actually going to achieve that financial goal? So it's similar to like in business coaching, when we talk about, well, this is my goal, I want to do this in my business, what are the action steps I'm going to do to get there? So it's very similar. So you would and you may work through the fears. So you may do some strategies or some, like visualisations or manifestations or whatever. And you might realise that, Oh, well, this is something that has been happening, I've been doing this behaviour since I was, you know, 10 years old, like just spending or not understanding my money and whatever it is, and then you'll be like, okay, and it's acknowledging it, understanding it, and then we're learning how to work through that behaviour.

Tina

Mm hmm. And it has, like, it's always been really interesting to me, because, I mean, you know, that I love money as well. And the ages I kind of had the relationship with money of money is very tangible, it's very black and white, it's money in its money out, I have to respect it, do well with it, and then it's a simple equation of spending less than I earn. And it took me a really long time to figure out that what I actually do with that money is so influenced by my behaviour and by my past, and that I could have been doing so much better and one of the biggest things for me was I was a battler like that was I love having my back against the wall and just like the challenge and the problem solving and doing all that and I found it didn't matter how much money I earned. I kept spending it all so that I would stay in that kind of battle position.

Fairien

Yet self sabotaging yourself completely.

Tina

Yeah, yeah. had a whole lot of fun was doing. But how much do you say people's beliefs about money? Kind of shapes? How much wealth they can accumulate?

Fairien

You see, so many people have this scarcity mindset that, you know, there's not enough money, no, I don't have it, I can never be rich I can never have. And it just basically stops them because they're not letting themselves go forward. Money is abundant. There's so much of it in the world, but it's like you need to put in the action steps or do what you have to do to actually make it you know, attract it to yourself. So like, if people just think, Okay, well, I'm going to sit in the middle of the road, and I'm going to do blue and be like, Oh, I want money and rain on it ain't gonna happen, right? Yeah. Like we say this, ruin this substance with it as well. So you have to do the like, you have to get a job. Now, if you want to have all these dreams and goals, and you're not earning enough in your job, well, then guess what you need to go and train get trained, or apply for a different job or work harder. Whatever it is, you need to take those action steps to earn more money so that you can achieve your, your lifestyle that you want. And that's what it's about. It's about these beliefs in yourself. A lot of people have this real limiting belief that I know, I can never do it. And the poverty cycle is because of this as well, because they just see the same behaviours. I mean, as you've probably seen, the poverty cycle is usually the same type of people that are always in the family comes from, you know, unless they break through and get through that poverty cycle. They're stuck. Yeah. But when they do break through, and they work through those beliefs, some of these people that come from really low socio economic backgrounds, they, they're outstanding, they can build so much. And I've worked with a lot of those people. But it's about breaking through. And first of all, acknowledging, okay, I have these issues, but how am I going to work through them?

Tina

Yeah. And how do you help people to identify their beliefs, because what I find a lot about, especially self limiting beliefs is they're so true to us that it's actually really hard to find what our own beliefs about things are, is because it's just so normal to us that we don't really realise it until someone else says something. And we go, Oh, hang on a minute.

Fairien

We have some things that we work through some questionnaires and workshops, and things like that. And when you ask the people, you just see the light, just take a step back and be like, because until someone asks you, or you realise that you're like, you know, you're working through something, and you actually hits you. You don't know it. And but when you do, those people are just like, That's so me. and nice. Exactly. So it's about just bringing, asking the right questions. And it's like peeling the onion layers, you know, so you've got to start from the top, very lightweight, and then you go inner and inner and inner, and, and when people do get to that core, they then they know that, yes, this is something I really need to change, I really need to work on it.

Yeah.

Tina

And it does, like, I think, like going back to the scarcity mindset, and what you were saying before about money being abundant, like it was only the other day that I was having a conversation with someone and they're like, you know, I just need to earn another $2,000 a month. That's what I need to get by and did it. And I was like, Piece of cake. Like just, there's a million ways we can add another $2,000 a month. And she could not say, in my mind, it was so hard. And it's really by having conversations with other people that you pick up your objections and your agreement and kind of distil what you're saying. Because I mean, for me, even when I was broke for many, many years, I always just had to, like I always had the attitude of I just haven't quite found the how yet, but I know it's there. And I know there's an infinite amount, and it's just gonna keep coming. Like people will say to me, aren't you afraid of doing that? Like what is, you know, you don't have that windfall again, or you don't have that success. Again, I was like, Man, it's never run out. Like, I give it away a lender. It just flows man. And I totally believe it's just going to all flow because I deal with it. And if it goes, but that's a total belief, that then enables me to put myself into those opportunities. Yes. And put myself forward to make that money because I believe I can.

Fairien

Yeah, exactly. And you've got to take a level of risk. If you're always going to be so scared and not gonna take any risk, you're not going to get anywhere. So risk and return they always go hand in hand. You've got to put your stuff you got to step out you've got to try it if you don't try it, then you're not going to it's going to work and you're going to be five years later, you'll be sitting in the same position saying we should try that. Yeah, and it's five years too late. When was the best time to do anything yesterday?

Tina

So what are you doing when you're coaching people? What's the biggest thing that you see holding people back.

Fairien

Fears. Fears are the biggest thing because people are just too scared? They're too scared of they're too scared Oh, I've got this now I might lose these but they don't see what is out there. What can you gain? What can you do? And I always say look, you know, fears? Yes, they do block you. But you've got you just got to build yourself around and you just got to build a buffer. So say like we've done so I have a lot of people that you know, they want to go just say they want to start in a business right? And this money block of Am I gonna leave my job is stopping them. Yeah, I've got to invest in the business. It's stopping me. And it's like, but you build a buffer, you build yourself buffet started as a side hustle, and then you can see what happens and build it. And once the momentum starts building, then you can let go of your other job. Like, it's like, you just got to work. He's just gonna do workarounds. Because if you don't step into the arena and trying to do something, you're never gonna get there.

Tina

And it's something I say a lot to have when, when people have to be successful. And they do that, like there was. I've spoken a couple lately of not mother's groups, but like, like, small business groups that have mum businesses, and a lot of them when they do it, and they view it as a hobby. You know, I'm just doing this in my spare time to keep myself busy, and they're not making any money. And then others, though, they're like, you know, I do that too. But I'm the breadwinner of my family. So I have to be profitable. So they are, yeah, and it totally like blows my mind to go. So people can like, turn that lever on and off, depending on what they need to do. And it's so important to identify what is holding you back. They can go okay, how am I going to push through that? And then once you're really motivated with it, you just find the how.

Fairien

Yeah, and I think, look, I mean, people have a different relationship with money. It's about creating that healthy relationship with money. Some people just absolutely hate money, and they think it's really bad, or it's really scary or whatever. And when you're doing that you're actually blocking it to staying away from you. So if you create that open attitude that, you know, I want to create a healthy relationship with money. I want to attract money, and whatever money comes to me, I want to use it for good. Yeah. And it's, you know, it's not that you have to actually do anything with it, you can just accumulate it and then do something.

Tina

That was a big, big block of mine, too, with the, like accumulating money was like greedy. And then it was just today and not doing anything with it. And like being a hoarder. And all of that sort of like I just could never see. And then one of the biggest things that shifted that belief with me and really shifted. I think everything in my whole life was in 2012. I went to Uganda with the Hunger Project. Yes. And they were two women on this trip who were sisters. And we gone into this village that was just terrible. And people were dying from drinking the local water and they had no resources. And so we were we were shown all of the different buildings that their Hunger Project had gone into and gone into the villages and built these epicentres that had like medical and education and a food bank and all of these wonderful things. And then very cleverly, they took us to a village that had none of those things to go, Okay, this is the difference. Yeah. And it was heartbreaking. And we're all standing there, like the spoilt Western women that we are crying. And these two women turned around and went, what does it cost to build an epi centre? That so the hunger projects goal is to go in and then have it self sufficient and then pull out which I love that method? Yeah. And they said $2 million from start to finish. And they spoke for about 20 seconds with each other and then turned around and said, Okay, we'll do it. Next year, we'll build one. And I was just like, get out of town. Like, what do you mean? What do you actually like how, and then I was fascinated in going, Okay, one, that's some good wealth. That way, you can just say a problem like that turn around and go, yes, I'd fix it. Secondly, that you're willing to give that much away. And third, I'm going that's what money can do. And she turned around to me and said, Tina, being poor won't help anybody. And from that second on, I was like, Alright, this, this show is on the road now. And I've funded so much with it. And the kind of thing is now I want to earn more and more money, because I can do so much with it. But I didn't understand it until I saw that.

Fairien

So money, like, basically, money gives you so many choices. And if it's not just for yourself, think of all the people you can help as well. And that's what it does. So another block people has it charity, right. So like, they'll think, Oh, my God, if I'm going to give to charities coming out of my pocket, now I have always been brought up with the belief you give to charity, you are going to get in 310 folds, you know, you're going to get so much more back because you give so much love and you know that you're helping someone who needs it, and you will always get it back. And in my whole life. That's what's happened. So even with my children, I told them, you know, when they start a job or their business or whatever it was, that first money you earn, you have to give it away. It's just a mindset and it's a belief that you need to really, really instil deep in you.

Yeah.

Tina

And so people were starting and wanting to improve their money situation. What steps can people take at the beginning to welcome more wealth in do you start off with like, is it looking at a budget?

Fairien

I would say first of all, you really need to work on your money mind. Because you can do budgeting to the enth degree, but if your money mindset is still your blocks and your fears and everything is still holding you back and limiting you, the budget is not going to do anything about working through that mindset and really understanding what are your beliefs? How can we change it? How can we transform your money story, because everybody has a money story about changing that money story. And you know, getting that really abundant and growth mindset happening around money, and understanding your relationship with money and creating this healthy, happy relationship where you're not scared of it, where you know, what you're doing is you're doing it for food, and you're attracting money into your life. And just having that mindset, the money is infinite. You can earn as much as you want. There's no limit to it, but you can do it. But you got to put in the steps to actually do it as well. So that would be the first step. And then yes, you need to understand your cash flow, you need to understand what's coming in what's going out. And you also need to set goals. If you set no goals, you've got no financial goals, you don't know what you're working towards. Yeah. So it's really important to set financial goals and say, Okay, well, these are the long term things I want. These are the short term things I want. This is what it costs, you know, do the whole analogy around it, and work out how you're going to get it. And if you think oh my god, I want this $2 million house and I'm only earning, you know, $50,000 Well, you need to do things to change your income position to actually be able to afford that house.

Tina

So I love like when you first told me your your line of it's like woo woo with substance, I was like, Yes, very. Because to me that that like totally encapsulates, you know, what you do and what you speak about is kind of the, the balance between the technical sort of substance, traditional money stuff that we all know, and a little bit of, the more woo woo.

Fairien

I love that, because I think it just gives you this more fun and enjoyable side toward as well. And I believe in the woo woo as well. So it's not so your technical side is understanding your cash flow, budget or cash flow, setting those financial goals really knowing what you want, and all the action steps you need to take. Right? So if you need to go and change your job, or you need to start that business or whatever you need to do. That's all the real substance stuff, right? The woo side is where we do the manifestation. We do the visualisations, we open ourselves up, we want to do journaling on our track the money, that's for the woo woo side, like the real, you know, getting our head right, and just doing some of the little boosts

Tina

I just made, I just made a crystal corner.

Fairien

I have little crystals all around like a bottom of my computer. Because it's energy. Money is energy. That's the other thing that people should understand. Money is energy, and it's a resource. So use that resource wisely.

Tina

Yeah, yeah. Beautiful. All right. Talk to me about the money Coaching Academy. Because this has been a long time coming. And I'm so glad that it's launching itself out into the world. And you're going to be absolutely fabulous at now helping other people to have your gifts and package them up and then help infinite amounts of people around the world to all understand this. So that So talk to me about how this has come about.

Fairien

Okay, so when I realised I really enjoyed the money coaching side of it, I of course, had my niche market, who I wanted to work with, etc, etc. But then I realise there's only so many people, I can touch so many people that I can help, then I love teaching, and I love helping people and growing and financial literacy is a real problem all over the world. So then we worked out there will if we take our package, our products, our packages, because a lot of people become coaches or want to do things but they don't have a programme they don't know how to actually, what will they they're going to go out there. How are they going to help people. So we created the money Coaching Academy to actually spread financial literacy, and help people become money coaches, so not financial advisors or anything like that. They're just doing the money coaching side of it, and spread it to spread it everywhere. So you become a money coach, you run your business, but you actually use our programme. So you've got a business, they're ready for you to just go and start and we teach you how to do it.

Tina

Where is where is it going? Well, I would love to my money Coaching Academy world domination.

Fairien

Yes, I would see love to see the money Coaching Academy, you know, really close the financial gap, all corners of the world. So we can go anywhere we want to, you can do this sort of business, as a coach added to a coaching business that you already have. Or you could do it if you're a financial advisor and accountant or mortgage broker, you get added on isn't it? Just another business? Or you can start a business from scratch and become a money coach? You can? Yes So many people, and at the end of the day you're helping people achieve financial freedom and that’s what it's about.

Tina

And what's the ideal background for a money coach?

Fairien

I always believe that you are your own best coach so someone did this programme and really learned themselves how to understand their money issues. fix their own money problems from that they've got the experience now to go and help other people as well.

So any I mean, like you could have any sort of background, you know, but it's because we teach you everything. We teach you all the financial side of it, we teach you how to do the coaching, and we teach you how to build it as a business as well. Yeah, we have.

Tina

And so where can people go to find out about money Coaching Academy?

Fairien

Well, if they look up the money Coaching Academy, or they can look at me, all the links are there so they can learn more.

Tina

Perfect. And I do have that all in our show notes as well. So anyone can look up there. There's a couple of free resources on there that you can get ahold of learn a bit more about it, and then go on through very end. Thank you so much.

Thank you so much for having me, Tina.
