Ep128 How much business can actually change in a year

In today's episode, I'm going to be talking about how much can change in your business in a years time, especially when you do things with a purpose.

The business that I have now is so different to the business that I had 12 months ago and I wanted to tell that story today. The past year has been a complete whirlwind with so many unexpected things thrown at us. But, it's also been an incredible year of learning and growing.

I want to show you that if you take conscious, purposeful steps, you can actually create and change how much you can bring in your life and how much closer to your dreams you can go in a very short year!

In a year, your business and your life is going to look so different than it does now and how it will look is 100% up to you!

In this episode, you will learn:

  • A throwback on the past year before everything changed.
  • How being purposeful changed my business.
  • Actions I took to get to where we are now.

REVIEW HER EMPIRE BUILDER PODCAST

Show Transcription:

A few weeks ago, I was at a conference and you know, we talked about our businesses. What business are you in? What business are you in? Anyway, I was talking about Her Empire Builder, and someone said, like, wow, that's great. How long has it taken you to build it up to the level that it's at the moment? And I said, Well, it will be our one year in a couple of months. And she was like, What? You weren't running this a year ago. And then I went, and I thought about it and where we were, at this time last year, and went, Wow, so much has changed. The business that I have now is so different to the business that I had 12 months ago. And I wanted to tell that story in the episode today. Because I think that we always judge other people in different expectations to ourselves, we always look at other people's stories and go, Oh, my gosh, like they must have been doing this for ages. I'm never going to get there. But then when you look at your own story and go, where were you 12 months ago, where were you five years ago, 10 years ago, and if 10 years ago, you could see you now, Oh my gosh, she would be going whoop-whoop! So I wanted to tell that story because a year ago, I had a very different business and her Empire Builder had not even began. Because I want to be able to show you if you take conscious, purposeful steps, how much you can actually create and how much change you can bring in your life and how much closer to your dreams you can go in a very short year, if you do it on purpose.

Hello, and welcome to Episode 128 of the Her Empire Builder podcast. Alrighty, now I want to with this one tell you a story that will hopefully let you know that this time next year, your life can look as much the same or as different as you want to be or want it to be. Now there's no getting around it. These past year has been an absolute doozie. Right? Like, for everybody, I think, you know, there was a saying that I heard about COVID that you're everyone's been in the same storm. But not everyone's been in the same boat. Some have been in really comfy boats, some have been in really rickety boats, some have been in the water with a life vest, and some have just been in there trying to kick. The experience has been very different. But it has shaped everybody in a really different way than anything that we've seen in our lifetimes so far.

So the other day, I was telling somebody about my business. And you know, they're asking lots of questions. And it was the first time that I'd really thought, yeah, like this past year has been big. And then I wanted to share it with you. And my reluctance was I don't want to share it with you and seem boastful. I don't want to seem like a show off to go, Hey, look at everything I've done in a year. But what I want to be able to say is a year ago, I was in panic, and I didn't know what was going to happen. And I took conscious steps very purposefully throughout everything, which gave me the life that I have now. And so I want to be able to share that I want to also say that I am in a very privileged position where opportunity is available. And I know that the high chance of you also being in that position. Because if you're listening to this, you've probably got those similarities. I think it's really easy for some people to be able to say, you know, happiness is a choice we make or if you want something go and just get it. But if some people it's like with the boats, you know it's easier for some than others and there's no getting around that. But you can take conscious purposeful steps forward, to be able to create your reality. It may take you longer than other people, it may take you less than other people but the point is that you don't have to have the same life if you don't want it. We are constantly creatures of evolution, we can create our future however we want it to.

So this time last year, we've been in lockdown for a couple of months. My kids were at home. They were out of school, I think it was 10 weeks? Was it eight or 10 weeks? I think it was about 10 weeks that they were out of school. And I had a massive panic. So I was in the US when COVID hit. So it was the 12th of March and I got an email saying, get on a plane and get home. From Virgin, we don't know how long we're going to be flying for. And I was there to go to South by Southwest my favorite conference and then to run my Her Empire Builder retreat. And the plan was to run the retreat, which would then kick off the Mastermind. So great way to serve people great way to get a lot of awareness out there and then to launch. So got on the plane came home from there going, what do we do now? Now is not the best time to launch a mastermind. So we put it on the back burner, even though it had been in the making for close to a year we've been planning it. So all the welding plans had gone out the window, which they did for so many people. And so I was there going, what do we do now. And I took very,

like actions that I knew, would just help people at the time, because I didn't know what was going to happen. But I felt like we all had this shared experience. So one of the things that I did first, like, I think, like as soon as we got back, like within a couple of weeks was I ran a full virtual conference called The Online Business Intensive where I got, I think, like six or seven different people that could help people move online, because what I saw was this massive rush with everyone that was talking to me and going, Hey, it's not, hey, I might want to get my business online. But it's if I don't get my business online, like in the next 30 days, I can't pay my mortgage, I can't keep going right now. And so there was this, this level of uncertainty and desperation in everybody. And so I thought that's not really the time to be, like pushing masterminds and selling things. And doing that it's the time to serve. And so we can all be together and help each other out of this situation that we had all been put into. So I did that. And then I offered free 30 minute calls to anyone who didn't know what to do next to get their business online. And in the span of a week I did 72. So it was a lot. But you know, it was cold and rainy. And we were on lockdown. And I hadn't gotten out of my tracksuit pants on my hoodie for like three weeks by that stage. So it was a great way to be able to connect with people and to serve and do that. But then we started getting, so the business a year ago, most of the revenue of my business came through it to launch my short course that I had, that's just about to wrap up. So if you do want that, make sure you get it now because it's going to be off the website by the 30th of June. Because instead of doing idea to launch, we have Limited Launch Formula. So anyway, that's beside the point.

But most of our revenue came from that course, which has been running since 2018. So that's been kicking over really, really nicely and making a big difference in a lot of people's lives. But then I was like trading time for money for the rest of it. So I was building websites in Kajabi. Because a lot of people that I would consult to within like, Okay, well, that all sounds great, but I don't want to do it. Can you do it for me? And I was like, Yeah, I can do it. Because, you know, that's the way the business looked at the time. And I thought Yeah, that's a good thing to do a

lot of work, a lot of work. So I was doing that in the month of April last year. We built 17 Kajabi websites, so a lot of websites, and then I was doing private coaching. So I got up to 20 private coaching clients which you know, financially pays really well. I charge two and a half $1,000 a month for my private coaching. And so you know, you can do the math on that and see how well paid that was. But it's also takes a lot of energy and I felt like I got to the stage where I wasn't giving my best self to everybody, because I was trying to serve too many people at once. And so doing that, and then I get off calls and just build and build websites. So that was what my business looked like 12 months ago, very different to what it looks like now. But I am a very big believer in that you do what you have to do until you can do what you want to do. And it's not like I didn't want to do it, I did love it, I was so incredibly grateful that we were in the online space when COVID hit. Because I feel like I've never been on the right side of anything, ever.

I've always really, really, really worked out and you're on one of those people that will like buy a house at the top of the market and then sell it like when, when it's at the bottom, like I've never been on the right side. And so it was really nice to be able to still have work. And so, you know, I went from there. And then we decided in June to launch Her Empire Builder Mastermind. And that was always my grand plan for like the previous year was to have this program because when I started on the online space, I looked at who I wanted to work with. And the people that I wanted to work with were women, because I'm very passionate about changing the financial futures of women, and showing that you can actually have at all, that you can craft your life, that you can have a great relationship, and be a parent and have a great business and make a massive impact in the world and make your life count. So I wanted to do that I wanted to work with really experienced people that are super smart, that could all collaborate together. And so her Empire Builder was really by design. And I launched it in June, and it took off. So my goal was to have 10 people in that first launch, and we got 32 in the first launch. So it was incredible to be able to, like surprise yourself, right?

Well, if you're a big goal-setter like me, you know, I usually set high goals, and I very rarely exceed them because they're always very high. So it was very exciting, to be exceeding the goals and running. Her Empire Builder is like the most fun I've ever had in business in my life. It is my dream come true. In terms of the work I get to do and the people that I work with, it's really something that I've used every bit of experience I've ever had in business, all rolled into one and all of my skills and all of my knowledge and my brain and everything that I can utilize in there. And I think that's part of when you'll really find that next level of success is when you can combine what you're really naturally good at with something that you're so fiercely passionate about. And when you can meet those two together, you're unstoppable. It's not a matter of if it's a matter of when because you can't fake that shit. Like, it's just, it's there. And so I think that contributed a lot to it.

But so I really wanted to like when we launched that in June and then from there, like COVID was still really prevalent in the world. I mean, it is now we have our Her Empire Builder retreat coming up. And I still like everyday going, please don't shut down, please don't shut down. Like it's really nerve wracking. But hopefully we'll get it all going. And so we've launched a couple of times, and we now have 62 members. And it's just exceptional to go. I caught a whole heap of my private coaching. So now I only have four. I no longer build any websites my husband still does for that part of our business. But I don't have any of that anymore. So a lot of my day is spent creating resources, the master classes, the templates, all of the different things to make all of our members lives easier. So to take everything that we've done, and put it into simple processes so that they can be duplicated and replicated and get the same if not better results than what we have got in their own respective businesses. So I mean, saying how well some people do like I get a kick out of it like nothing else. But it's amazing how much can change in a year. You know, I stop and look at it now. And I go, I always feel like I'm going too slow. And I know how ridiculous that is because men do I sprint.

Like we have Her Empire Builder retreat coming up. And then I launched my book, Million Dollar Micro Business. And then I'm running a conference, Women Online Conference. Like there's a lot going on. And then we're launching Her Empire Builder again. And we've just released Limited Launch Formula, our new short course. But I always feel like there's so much more that I could be doing. I have no shortage of ideas. So I'm always like, I could do this, I could do this, we could do this, we could help these people by doing this, and this and this. And this. And I just have more ideas than I do have minutes available in the day or energy as I'm getting older. My gosh.

But my point with saying all of that is, if I look back on it, what we have achieved in the past 12 months is exceptional. It is very different than where I was sitting 12 months ago. And I wish I had known 12 months ago how it was going to look now and I wouldn't have worried so much. And this was something that, you know, I consciously know. And I have told myself multiple times through my life, because we get these lessons again and again. And I want you to know that it's all going to be okay. You can create what you're going to create. I mean, when you launch, I always tell people, like how would you show up, if you knew this business was going to make you  million dollars a year? Because in the beginning, it can be really stressful and you're going, is this all going to be worth it? Am I going to be able to do this? I don't want to show up on live video again, like I'm so tired. And I'm sick of this and I got too much and I'm not getting the results. I'm not getting the return. But it starts small, and then it goes smaller and smaller and smaller. And then it just shoots right on up. And so if you look at your business now and go, how would you treat it if you knew that in a year or two it was going to be making you a million dollars a year? Would you stress less? Would you show up in a different way? I want you to know it's all going to be okay. When I sold my business, Begin Bright, so that was in 2016, and I had no idea what I was gonna do next. None. I had a massive identity crisis. I was like, who even am I? I did not know what was going to happen, how I was going to recover. So I was like a broken woman. At the end of that business. I had massive adrenal fatigue, I just had got really fat because I had thyroid issues and stress things going on. And just you know, I was neck and back alcohol, like, you know, I was on a deserted island with the only thing to drink. It was just, I was in a bad way. And I remember then thinking how am I going to recover from this like I used to be so sunshine, and I used to be so filled with joy. And I was there as a really sad, broken woman. And then we went on our trip. And I mean, yeah, like we can't do that right now. We can't travel right now. But sometimes we do need a bit of a pattern interrupt. And when we came back, I felt so free and so calm, and so happy and light again. And I didn't know whether that was possible to feel that way again. And that was only a year later. And so I keep getting these messages again and again, in going every year, you can be in a totally different headspace, you can be have a totally different business, everything can look so different than it did a year ago. I mean, take the year when you get married or you move in with a partner, or you have babies or you buy a new home, or you start a new business or you decide that you're sick of playing small and you're going to have the courage to level on up and freakin go for it. In a year, your business, your life is going to look so different than it does now. And how that looks is 100% up to you.

And so I want to tell you, it's going to be okay. All your dreams are going to come true. Know that it's going to happen and act as if it already has. Because your success is already a foregone conclusion. If you stay committed and you take purposeful bold action in the direction of your dreams. Go get it!
